This song is in the KEY of E major.

This is a 2 chord song, basically. An E chord and an F#minor chord.

This is known as a I – iim progression. E is the I chord and F#m is the ii chord.

You can use an Emaj7 chord and a F#min7 chord. There are some slight variations but those two chords will suffice.

Many songs use just 3 or 4 chords. In fact, thousands of 'hit' songs have been written with just 3 or 4 chords. So you don't always need to know a lot of chords to be able to play lots of easy songs.

The point of this video is to show how a simple chord progression can be used to write a song. The songs in this video were originally played in different keys. But here, they are all in the one key. To show how the chord progression fits all the songs.
Axis of Awesome – What you can do with 4 easy chords is a post from: Strum Easy Guitar Songs

Wow… this video has been watched over 8 million times on YouTube!!

Simple chord progression using 4 chords

Many songs use just 3 or 4 chords. In fact, thousands of ‘hit’ songs have been written with just 3 or 4 chords. So you don’t always need to know a lot of chords to be able to play lots of easy songs.

The point of this video is to show how a simple chord progression can be used to write a song. The songs in this video were originally played in different keys. But here, they are all in the one key. To show how the chord progression fits all the songs.

KEY: E Major

CHORDS: E, B, C# minor, A

PROGRESSION: I – V – vi – IV

The key of E Major has 7 chords: E(1), F#m(2), G#m(3), A(4), B(5), C#m(6), D#dim(7)

Each chord has a number from 1-7. But here, we use ‘roman numerals’ instead: Capitals mean MAJOR and lower-case means MINOR.

E(I), F#m(ii), G#m(iii), A(IV), B(V), C#m(vi), D#dim(vii)

So this is called a I-V-vii-IV progression. Or, in English, a one – five – six – four progression.

Learning to play guitar songs is not always easy, especially for beginners.

There’s usually a lot of fumbling with chord changes and gnashing of teeth. But stick with it, you will soon get it. And when you do you’ll be ready to tackle the next challenge with glee.

Over time, I’ll put up more strumming lessons to help you sound great.

Most easy guitar songs use just 3 chords

The easiest way to get to grips with songs is to notice their similarities. One common one is that thousands of songs just use 3 chords.

Another thing to note is that many songs use the same chords in the same order.

What I mean by that, is that often, when trying to figure out a song, two songs with the same chords can sound completely different. This can confuse the issue at hand somewhat.

So I’ll be making a series of articles explaining these things so you can learn guitar songs much more quickly and easily.
